Recently, I’ve been inspired by the two video podcasts I’ve been watching, to post to my blog more often. I really like writing, and I especially like writing about what I’m knitting about. The Stockinette Zombies, found recently through The Knit Girllls, have been keeping me company in my office while I take an actual lunch break to eat and then do a little bit of knitting. I really like the format of the show because they talk about finished objects (FOs), works-in-progress (WIPs), and finally stash acquisition. This has been particularly bad for my stashdown in 2012, but hopefully now that I’ve spent my birthday money, I won’t buy anymore! I would also like to post weekly on these three things. I’m not sure that will always happen, but as my spring break officially started today, I took some time to take pics of some currents WIPs to blog about (note: these are not my only WIPs, they are just the ones that are currently picture worthy and that I’m knitting regularly, or as Amy from Stockinette Zombies says, that I’m giving love to.
WIP #1 is the oldest of the 3, The Beekeeper’s Quilt by Tiny Owl Knits. Hexipuffs are all the rage currently on ravelry these days. At first I didn’t think I liked them that much, but then they started the grow on me, and they seemed the perfect thing to make out of all of my leftover sock yarn. The first quilt will be for me and our new very long bed, and I am trying to make it entirely out of merino cashmere nylon blend leftovers, and mostly bugga. These puffs are leftover from my wedding socks, made out of Bugga in Blue Metalmark. I adore this colorway. The little hexes are stuff with polyfill, and will be sewn together at the end. Sewing is my least favorite part but I read the entire pattern, and this doesn’t seem like it will frustrate me as much as the last blanket I sewed together. I hope to make many more quilts after I finish with this one.
The second WIP is Mashad socks designed by Hunter Hammersen, knit in Hazel knits artisan colorway Cherry Fizz. These were intended for 2 KALs, the Hazel knits KAL for Jan/Feb, and the Solid Socks summer colors for Feb. Unfortunately, I’ve not been knitting socks monogamously like I used to, thus the other things I’ve been knitting have been taking up my sock knitting time. I’m still on track to finish at least 2 pairs a month however. Here is sock #1, and I’m about half way finished the leg on sock #2.
My last WIP is Arroway shawl designed by Stephen West, knit in Eidos colorway the Prince and Dragonsock colorway Poseidon. These are dyed by different people but are dyed on the same base. I love love love this color combination. The pattern is very easy garter stitch stripes, my favorite kind of brainless knitting. I haven’t quite decided if I want to knit the arrows in the border or not, but I probably will. This is pattern 2 of Westknits shawl club.
