Back in December, I was one of the lucky first ones to find out I won the lottery and got a spot at the Spring Fling. Spring Fling is a retreat put on by the Loopy Ewe every year where you get to take classes, hang out in the lounges and knit all day long with fellow knitters, and make a trip to Loopy central, the amazing yarn store in St. Louis Missouri that I frequently buy from online. They stock many of my favorite Indy yarn dyers.
The weekend started out with a 3 hour drive to St. Louis with my new friend Wanda, check-in with cupcakes and an amazing goodie bag that included yarn, notions, a mug, patterns, and lots of other goodies. After I went up to my room and met my roommate Kim, we went to the newbie dinner at the Mexican place. There were tons of people there, and it was nice to start meeting people and talking about knitting. Everyone was wearing their handknits.
The next day started out with a class for me with Anne Hanson called Advanced Lace Knitting. I learned how to do a provisional cast on, edging on a lace project, and I started knitting a smaller version of the Bee Fields Triangle Shawl. Anne showed us a bunch of swatches she had done, and I learned a lot about the difference that fiber, yarn weight, needles, and color variegation can make when knitting lace.
After lunch, I went up to Tasha’s room where the ladies who had shopped at the Loopy Ewe sprawled out on the bed with their new stash. I couldn’t wait until the next day when I too would get to go shopping. Here is Elizabeth looking sexy with the yarn.
In the evening we went to dinner at the Trainwreck. I ate a bison burger and sweet potato fries, yum. Then it was back to the lounges for more knitting.
On Saturday, I finally got the chance to go to Loopy Central to do some shopping. The store was amazing; there were shelves and shelves of the most amazing yarn, and I know I didn’t see everything. I had a few things in mind I wanted to try and that’s what I ended up buying. Here I am posing at Loopy Central.
And here is my haul (from top to bottom): 6 skeins of Tosh DK for a cardigan, 2 skeins of Sweet Georgia Cashsilk lace, Fiberoptic, The Yoyo Cashsock String, Sweet Georgia, Tosh sock, 2 skeins of skinny bugga, numma numma the usual, and Wollmeise 100%.
In the evening a group of us went to Teppan. I ordered scallops and filet, and it was delicious and very fun. We knit together after dinner, had cake balls (which are awesome cake and frosting rolled into balls and dipped in chocolate), and hung out until midnight. Group photo!
I had such a wonderful time. I hope I get to go back next year, and I will definitely enter the lottery for a spot. It was worth every penny I spent on the trip, and I can’t imagine a better knitting time.
Which reminds me, I got lots of sock knitting done on the trip. Here are my finished Cauchy socks and the new socks I cast on, Spring Forward.
Looks like you had a lot of fun. I got to go last year. Hopefully, I will get picked for next year. I love your yarn haul.
I did have tons of fun! I hope we all get to go next year.
Thanks for helping me re-live some of the great fun we had. I love all the beautiful yarn you picked out at Loopy. Can’t wait until next year:)
Yay Julie! It was great to meet you!
Great picture! I had such an amazing time and was really happy to have met you all. I can’t wait to knit with all of you again! I like the picture of you in front of the Loopy sign… I totally forgot to get one of myself.
P.S. Go see my blog, and you’ll see a picture of you and Carolina next to my Vesper! : )
